A potential longshoreman labor union strike could disrupt the entire eastern seaboard through the Gulf of Mexico
The International Longshoreman Association, 45,000 strong, is threatening to strike if an agreement is not reached by 1 October, 2024. They are asking for an increase in labor rates and job protection from automation.
If dock workers go on strike, supply chains could be massively disrupt 36 ports including Charleston, Houston and Miami. More than $200B worth of goods and produce supporting over 500,000 jobs could be affected lasting well into 2025. This would be deleterious to the U.S. economy.
Suggestion: Stock up on food, water, medicines, batteries and any supplies you and your family and business will need to operate with minimal inconvenience.
